Merily Rool: The Riigikogu is debating the possibility of making political tourism legal

Merily Rool published an opinion on ERR regarding the issue of local government candidacy rights. If the plan to change the eligibility to run for office passes, then essentially any citizen of Estonia or the European Union aged 18 or older could participate in discussions on local community issues in the city or municipal council. There may be no connection to the area, and therefore it is entirely expected that political tourists will increasingly be used as vote magnets in local elections.
